Buying a boat abroad from Turkey: comparables, survey and total cost
Marin Sayfa İçerik Ekibi · 2026-10-12
For a buyer living in Turkey, an overseas boat listing is a starting point for research, not a complete purchase budget. Compare the boat itself, the evidence behind the price and the work needed before delivery. Marin Sayfa offers a place to start boat price research and discuss the scope of brokerage support. Availability of services in a particular country must be agreed with the team rather than assumed.
Build a brief before building a shortlist
Record the exact make, model, year, hull type, length, cabin layout, engines, operating hours and important equipment. Include maintenance history and known refit needs. State the intended use and where the boat will be kept. Mark missing information as unknown; do not turn an empty field into an assumed specification.
Use three levels of comparable evidence
Start with the same model and similar years. If that sample is too small, look at closely related models from the same builder, including the model immediately below or above where technically appropriate. Finally, broader alternatives may provide context, but should not be presented as exact comparables. Explain differences in hull, size, propulsion, layout, age and condition. Do not apply an automatic percentage adjustment simply because two model names look similar.
Keep a source record for every boat
Save the listing URL, access date, location, specifications, advertised currency and asking price. Record tax or flag information only when stated and subject it to document checks. Distinguish a current asking price from a price reduction, an old listing and a documented completed sale. The same boat advertised on several sites is one comparable, not several independent transactions.
Convert currency without hiding costs
Keep the original price and use a consistent exchange-rate date when preparing a TL comparison. Then set out inspection, lifting, identified maintenance, delivery and other transaction costs separately. Applicable tax, registration and import questions require advice for the particular boat, buyer and route. A foreign asking price must not be described as a delivered, tax-inclusive price in Turkey unless that is actually established.
Separate research, survey and the transaction
A broker’s market comparison and a technical survey answer different questions. Ask who will inspect the hull, engines and equipment, how a sea trial will be arranged and what the written scope covers. The RYA buying guide discusses ownership documentation, written terms and survey or sea-trial conditions. BoatUS describes its checklist as preliminary evaluation rather than a substitute for a competent surveyor. Their country-specific legal rules should not be transferred to a Turkish transaction without local advice.
Ask for scenarios, not a guaranteed number
A normal marketing range and a more competitive asking-price scenario can be useful when their sources and assumptions are shown. A faster-sale scenario is not proof of the price at which the boat will sell. Ask how sparse comparables, condition differences and unverified costs affect confidence. Do not treat an AI estimate or an advertised price as a certified valuation or a completed transaction.
What to ask Marin Sayfa
Share your preferred boat type, model, budget, equipment needs and the listings you have already found. Start with the price-consultation section, then ask which additional research or coordination services can be provided for the specific country. Agree responsibility, scope and any fees before engaging a service. This guide does not claim that Marin Sayfa maintains offices, transaction authority or survey teams in every market.
Can property or a vehicle form part of the plan?
Marin Sayfa also operates a boat exchange marketplace. Eligible property consists of homes, apartments, villas and shops in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Land and agricultural land are excluded. Vehicles must be model year 2015 or newer. These are marketplace acceptance rules; an individual boat owner must also accept the proposed asset. The three-city restriction concerns property, not the boat’s location. An overseas seller should never be assumed to accept a Turkish property exchange without explicit agreement.
Company information: keep the metrics separate
Marin Sayfa’s company statement dated 1 October 2026 reports 13 total boat sales during 2026 up to that date and nearly 30 million combined monthly video views across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X. These are company-reported figures, not independently audited findings. The 13 sales are not all stated to be above EUR 500,000 and are not a count of completed exchanges. Video views are not impressions, unique people or guaranteed views for an individual listing. These figures do not establish overseas purchase experience in a particular country.
